Sometimes, when life changes in unexpected ways, routines can help us feel grounded. That's exactly the sentiment of "Our Walk to School," which Rebecca Gardyn Levington presents in this Poem Share.
You can find many other poems in HOP TO IT: POEMS TO GET YOU MOVING (edited by Sylvia Vardell and Janet Wong) that reflect the challenges of these times, including poems about wearing masks, keeping social distance, and worrying about viruses. These poems can help kids sort through complicated feelings during difficult times.

What a great idea to bring some normalcy to the pandemic and convey it through a terrific poem, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Patricia! I'm glad you enjoyed it. There's so much from this pandemic that has been awful, but there are a few wonderful things that have come out of this time as well. It's nice to reflect and celebrate those too. :)
DeleteA wonderful poem and video! I loved reading this the first time I saw it, Rebecca. These are terrific boosts, Michelle. Walking to school even while it's closed....a terrific idea for all sorts of reasons. I am trying to recall which famous poet's (there are many) words I read about taking long walks. I think it might be this:
ReplyDelete“I think that I cannot preserve my health and spirits unless I spend four hours a day at least — and it is commonly more than that — sauntering through the woods and over the hills and fields absolutely free from all worldly engagements…” Henry David Thoreau, 1851 and here is a link that I found and love. (PS I need to walk more. This is spurring me on. For health and poetry!)
